City of Atlanta Municipal Code: Ch 10: Alcohol

The framework by which the City of Atlanta evaluates licensee applications, establishes compliance and enforces violations.

City of Atlanta License Review Board (LRB)

Atlanta’s License Review Board is an appointed board of citizens who are charged with the review of licensing applications and due cause hearings. The LRB issues a recommendation of support or denial (or violation penalties) to the Mayor’s Office for final decision.

 

State of Georgia Code: Ch 3: Alcohol

Applicants are required to meet both state and local city requirements to obtain an alcohol license. State laws that govern alcohol service and sale supersede those of a municipality.

ATAG II Recommendations

Over a decade ago, the City of Atlanta twice convened a group of city, industry and community leaders to serve on an advisory council and review alcohol licensing. This group is called the Atlanta Alcohol Technical Advisory Group (ATAG).

ATAG I and ATAG II to made recommendations for improving alcohol licensing. At the conclusion in 2012, ATAG II delivered a series of recommendations to City Council and few have been implemented.

 

In 2019, NPUs reviewed 332 alcohol license applications. Of the 25 NPUs, 65% of the applications were located in one of five NPUs.
